CATHERINE KING AND LABOR WILL FINISH THE JOB AT HER MAJ
A Shorten Labor Government will invest $5 million to finish the job and set Her Majesty’s up for the future.
One of Ballarat’s best loved and most iconic buildings, Her Majesty’s is currently undergoing much needed repairs.
“Everyone in Ballarat knows the need to repair the damage to Her Majesty’s, mainland Australia’s best preserved and longest running theatre,” Ms King said.
“A Shorten Labor Government will invest the $5 million required not only to finish the repairs at Her Majesty’s but to set the building up for the future.”
“Artistic communities like Ballarat rely on beautiful heritage buildings like Her Majesty’s, they are a place where our stories are enjoyed and celebrated”, Mr Burke said.
“Ballarat is lucky to have such an important and historic theatre, and I am proud that a Shorten Labor Government will invest in protecting and upgrading it for the future”.
Labor’s $5 million investment will set the building up for the future, installing the lifts, ramps and other facilities needed to ensure that all members of the Ballarat community can access the facilities.
These changes will mean that patrons of all abilities will be able to enjoy the performances and events at Her Majesty’s, while performers and guests of all abilities will have easy access to the stage.
“This is a project that has united the Ballarat community – with thousands of petitioners and numerous local groups campaigning for the project, and the City of Ballarat and state Labor Government both putting forward funding for the works,” Ms King said.
“Thank you to everyone who has lent their support for this project”, Ms King said.
“Without the support of the entire Ballarat community this funding commitment could not have been secured”,
Unfortunately the Morrison Liberal Government has failed to contribute to the project both through the Building Better Regions grants program and the 2019 Federal Budget.
Only Catherine King and Labor are prepared to invest in Her Majesty’s and the future of our community.
