NEW SPACE FOR STUDENTS TO THRIVE AT ST ALOYSIUS
Member for Ballarat Catherine King today joined with the St Aloysius school community to officially open of the school’s new junior learning hub.
St Aloysius Primary School has played an integral role in educating and supporting children in Redan and beyond for almost 150 years. While its long-standing redbrick façade still faces to Ripon Street, much of the school’s interior is now as modern and inclusive as its students and community.
The new, fit for purpose Year 1 and 2 building incorporates three general learning spaces plus an open space that builds a sense of community among the students. Movable glass walls and doors, modern wooden furniture and soft furnishings help create a dynamic learning community which allows for teaching, collaboration and individual learning.
The Year 1 and 2 building sits adjacent to the Foundation level classrooms and the courtyard garden which has become a meeting place for parents and carers.
The project also included the refurbishment of the existing Foundation, Years 3 and 4 classrooms, and an upgrade of the school staffroom and lobby.
The $2 million project was supported with a $500,000 contribution from the Albanese Government’s Capital Grants Program.
The Albanese Government strongly believes in providing the best possible resources so that local students can realise their potential and develop the skills they need to go on to further study or to find a job.

Quotes attributable to Member for Ballarat Catherine King:
“This beautiful new fit for purpose space provides an opportunity for grade 1 and 2 children to learn, grow, explore and thrive.
“It’s wonderful to see the pride that the students have in their new spaces and to see the school community come together to celebrate their school. I know these new facilities will benefit the children at St Aloysius today as well as the many students who will follow in future years.”
Quotes attributable to St Aloysius Principal Narelle Cox:
“Our students are at the centre of everything we do here. Each new classroom space has been designed to support a calm and positive learning environment. The new space being beside our kitchen garden encourages friendships and interaction, and means there are often students nibbling on the parsley and mint growing in the garden!
“Our heartfelt thanks to the many people who made this project a reality. For our school, this isn’t just a building; it’s a space where friendships will be built and dreams will take flight.”
Quotes attributable to Learning Support Officer and former student Annie McCartin:
“I still remember my first day at St Aloysius as a five year old, so many years ago. It’s really exciting to now be working in the new learning hub with the 1 and 2 students.
“The buildings have changed a lot, but the school is as welcoming as it always has been.”
