SUPPORTING BALLARAT’S VETERANS
Labor Member for Ballarat, Catherine King MP, today announced that a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will invest $3 million to establish a fit-for-purpose home for a veterans, families and community hub in Wendouree.
The Ballarat Veterans Assistance Centre (BVAC) supports the welfare and wellness of serving and ex-serving members and veterans of the Australian Defence Force, as well as their families and supporters.
The current site used by BVAC near Barkly Square in Ballarat East is not fit-for-purpose and lacks the accessibility and privacy required for the services that BVAC provides to its clients.
This $3 million election commitment will enable the City of Ballarat to refurbish an existing location to create a welcoming, functional and accessible hub.
With a reception area, space for consultations and confidential sound-proof rooms, it will be a place where veterans and their families can work with advocates to access the services they need.
Thousands of veterans live in the Central Highlands region, and the benefits of this project will extend far beyond the boundaries of Ballarat.
The new hub will be located close to other existing health services and public transport.
Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.
